No, I’m not closing down this blog. The good thing that is ending is my three-week break from courses. This morning the classroom once again lit up as another quarter begins. This time however, I expect a more sane and reasonable work load. Last quarter just about did me in but now my toughest courses are behind me and I’m heading down the stretch to practicums and field work (to take up the entire year 2013).
As a last hoorah before the new quarter, Richard and I took a quick trip to Kentucky to spend a few days with family and friends. Other than the brutal heat (temps in the six digits each day we were there) we relaxed and enjoyed the time we had with Mom and Dad and others. I came back with a car load of plants to beautify our yard. Enjoy some of the photos I shot while in Kentucky. If the plants take root, this will give a hint of what we look forward to next year.
Enjoy your weekend. And for those of you in the US (especially central and eastern), stay cool if you can.

Wow, that second photo is stunning. Don’t know what those flowers are called. Where were you in Kentucky?
Stay cool. It infernal here in Lexington.
Hugs,
Kathy
The second flower is a cone flower. It draws bees when they bloom, but when the center ‘cone’ turns to seed, the yellow finches will feast on them. Glad you liked the photo.
We were in Louiville for two days. I thought of y’all and hopefully on a future trip home we will be able to pop over to Lexington for a visit. Would love to meet you and Sara face-to-face!
Stay cool; it seems you are having it worse than we are here in Cleveland.
Hugs back,
C
Tomato plants are like a magnet for insects destroy entire garden and I always used to plant them separately another area of yard. Leaf minors are the worst. These can be controlled by simple home made organic insect killer. Put several cigarettes in water spray bottle with water . In two days it should like like dark tea. Spray. It will kill and control bugs and does no harm to plants or fruit.
Richard was taken aback when I told him I had to make a run to CVS for a pack of cigarettes! LOL! BUT, I’m going to give it a try. Thanks for the hint. 🙂
Looking forward to seeing your garden, Cecelia :). These pictures are more than promising.
Thank you. I look forward to spending time in the yard and seeing what I can do with it. 🙂
Good luck with the new term 🙂
Thanks Martin. I hope this quarter is a little easier than the last. 🙂
there’s something special about creating your garden with bits and pieces from other places, other people. It provides beauty for your eye and your heart.
Yes, Joss. These plants are special because they come from ‘home’ . . . Thanks for stopping in. 🙂
It was fun to be given and bring back the plants, I’m sure. My best to you as you resume your studies.
Thanks Barbara. I will finish putting out the plants today, and will get started on my classes by this afternoon. Thank you for the well wishes. 🙂
Coneflowers are one of my favorites. Your potted plants did do very well! Enjoy those tomatoes! (I know you will!) Or have already done so.
The tomatoes were flavorful and all-around delicious! There are plenty more on the vine so we are looking forward to a scrumptuous summer. 🙂
Hi Cecelia,
Your garden looks beautiful. Best of luck with the new quarter.
Thanks Naomi. I’m putting out the last of the plants from KY today. The weather should be a bit milder. And then I’ll be hitting the books this afternoon! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
It will be fun to get your new yard filled with what makes your heart happy! 106 here yesterday 107 today. Relief tomorrow they say.
Ooooo… Hope “they” are right and that you get a reprieve from the heat. It was in the three digits while we were at Mom and Dad’s, but it has been in the upper 90’s here at home. Today’s predicted high is 79 degrees. Yay! 🙂
Beautiful tomatoes and flowers. Hope you enjoy getting back into your studies.
I looked over the syllabus last night and the classes look quite interesting. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
love these images cecelia…phew…you had me worried there for a minute
🙂 Glad you like the photos. I have thoroughly enjoyed the break from academia and am a bit saddened that it is time to jump back into coursework. This quarter will be less intense however, so I hope to keep up with everyone more regularly than I did last quarter. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week. 🙂
Love the photos, Ms. F! Especially those tomatoes (you’d better keep your eye on them know that I know there are some ripe ones about 😉 )!
Seriously, though… best of luck this quarter!!! A LOT of work, I’m sure, but something tells me it will be over before you / we know it!
🙂
thanks SIG. Hopefully this quarter will be a less intense and more enjoyable than last. And the tomatoes ? . . . there are PLENTY for everyone, so come on over and pick a few 😉 Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.
Those lovely coneflowers will bring the gold finches to your yard!
I hope so. The flowers are a bit droopy after the long ride on a very hot day from KY to northern OH, but next spring they should be beautiful and I’m looking forward to the birds! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
Giving you award in my new post 🙂 *hugs*
Thank you! I’m headed over there now. {hugs}
Beautiful flowers… love them… 🙂
Thank you, Bams. I appreciate you stopping by. Have a wonderful day! 🙂
