68-69/365 Photo Challenge 2015

It’s a cat’s world tonight at our home. After driving home from Chicago I was not really inspired to photograph anything for this challenge. Not only that, I was a day behind so I needed two photos to be caught up. As I wandered through the house looking for something to “shoot,” I saw the kitty votive candle holder and for lack of anything more interesting, the candle holder became my subject. To be honest, I didn’t put much time into it, just lit the candle and placed it on a crumpled up napkin. I was a little disappointed in myself but then I told myself that when I am posting a photo a day, there will be “down” days photographically speaking.

Now, what to do about the second photo. As I was sitting on the sofa trying to think of something a bit more creative than a candle holder, Willy, our Russian Blue, jumped in my lap and curled up for a nap. He missed us while we were gone and has not let me out of his sight since our return home. While he slept I turned the camera on him and shot a few frames. That became my entry for day 69 of this challenge.

So, tonight the motif was cats, and now I’m caught up with this challenge. Thanks to those of you who follow along. This is proving to be challenging for sure. Hopefully by the end of the year I’ll be a better photographer and I will know my camera with all its advanced settings much better.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Self-Portrait

You’ve seen this one before, but it’s one of my favorites so I’ll post it again. This one was taken with my cat, Pele, a couple of months before she died. It is one of my favorite photos.

I’ve taken other self-portraits, too, but none that I like as much as the one with Pele. But here are a few.

I was unsure about including the last photo. I’m sure you can guess why. But I am in it. It is a self-portrait. And, what good is life without a sense of humor! Hahaha. 😀

Enjoy. This is a fun topic and I may try my hand at other self-portraits this week. If I do, you will know. 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge, Post-A-Week 2011: Refuge

These are not my best photographs, not even close.  But each in its own way portrays some aspect of “refuge,” at least to this photographer’s eyes.

I shot these about thirty minutes ago from my balcony perch.  I look forward to sitting on my “porch” with my first cup of coffee of the day while watching the sun rise. . .when the weather gets warmer.  Living in Virginia, I expect warmer weather to arrive earlier in the spring than I’ve been used to during the past few years.  Can’t wait.

Our cat, Pele, in her old age has taken to snuggling under the covers when she naps, which is most of the day.  Usually we only see a tail, or when she is completely burrowed in, we see a slight bump indicating that something is under the covers.  I’m sure that here she thinks she is completely hidden from view.  Ahhh, the life of a cat.

I shot this one last summer with my little Olympus point-and-shoot camera.  The other photographs today were taken with my Pentax DSLR, with a Tamron lens.  I find it interesting that of the photos posted today, this one is my favorite.  Just goes to show that it’s not the expensive equipment that makes the photograph! But then  maybe this photo is my favorite because it depicts a place of refuge for me.
