At the moment I do not have any pets. Last November I had to put down my pet cat, Pele, who was 18-years-old and very sick. She was a wonderful part of our family and I still miss her. The following is my favorite photo taken with her about a year before she died.
I shot the following photo hours before we took her to the vet for the last time.

Fortunately most veterinarians are very compassionate when that time comes. I will never forget the knowing looks on the faces of the staff when we arrived with Annie. I heard a breath catch from one of them and we were ushered quietly and promptly into an exam room to be alone with her for the last few minutes until we opened the door to let them know we were ready.
Our experience was very much like yours. I am thankful for compassionate, caring people who work with animals. Thanks for stopping by, Barbara.
How very sad. I once had two cats and a dog. They are all in the yard as ashes or buried now. I will never own another pet. It hurts to much to let them go.
I said the same thing after Pele died. But now I’m reconsidering. Maybe we will get another pet once I finish school and can give it proper attention. Thanks as always for stopping by, Linda. Have a great day. 🙂
I remember having to put our cat down. Not a fun experience. 18 seemes like a pretty good age so I hope you have a lot of fond memories. Thanks for the pingback.
Yes, I have many fond memories. She was a great pet. Thanks for stopping by, Paul. 🙂
Pele looks like she was a sweetie pie!! Thanks for joining in this week.
Thanks for stopping by, Cee. 🙂
come, come Cecelia…If Pele was around today she would be saying to you’ come on mommy find another cat who needs your love’
as pet lovers we never forget those who have died and are now at peace but also as a pet lover you have enough love in your life to share with another creature.
so pop to the rescue centre and discover a new love…….. Your Pele is indeed very beautiful but now she is across the Rainbow Bridge and it is time to heal the ache in your heart…lots of love P
Patrecia, you are soooo sweet. Actually we are going to wait till I finish school (estimated Dec, 2013) before getting another pet. My time is totally consumed with studies and in a few months when I start my fieldwork, I will be gone from the house most of the time. So, as a graduation gift, we will be looking for another pet after I get my degree. We MAY get a dog, or a puppy and kitten together, or just go with a cat again. We’ll see. But for now I can’t give a pet the attention it needs. You are so sweet to suggest that. 🙂
Very, very powerful photos, Ms. F…
I can tell Pele was a wonderful friend…
Thanks SIG. Yes, she was a wonderful pet. Thanks for stopping by. Much appreciated. 🙂
One of my cats just turned 16 last month and the other will be 13 in June, and while they’re both fairly healthy now, I’ve been thinking a lot about how they’re far from being kittens. Thank you for sharing your photos of Pele.
Thanks for stopping by, CJ. Our pets bring us such joy. They are part of the family, aren’t they. May you have many more years of enjoyment with your cats. 🙂
So sorry about Pele. The photo of her in your arms is priceless.
Thank you. I think this is my favorite photo of us together. Glad you like it.
