Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulge

This furry visitor LOVES suet! S/He indulges in the delicacy any and every chance possible. It is funny to watch the birds gather around, perched on nearby branches, watching and waiting for their chance at this food which was originally intended for my feathered friends. If this squirrel weren’t so cute, I’d be chasing him/her off. But we’ve become friends, so much so that when I open the window to chase him/her away, s/he will jump to the window ledge instead and try to come into the house. One day soon I hope to get a shot of the two of us staring at each other, nose-to-nose, through the window.

I know what this squirrel likes to indulge in! What about you?  What is your favorite indulgence?

Personal Challenge: Serve Others

Reblogged from The Laughing Bunny:

Most New Year's resolutions are self-serving. There is nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight or reduce your blood pressure; however, I want to do something for others this year. Besides, I think I am as sexy as I will ever be.

Last year, my resolution was to socialize more, which meant I had to break that triangle of work, bar, and home.

Look at what the Laughing Bunny is doing! What a neat idea, a personal challenge to serve others. Check out his blog, and consider helping him help wounded veterans (a series of four posts, this is the first). There are so many ways we can use our abilities and talents for good and for service. Wow. What a cool idea. Enjoy.

Gone to the Birds!

I need to be studying. The nearer I get to the end of this quarter, the more pressure to produce papers and discussion posts and peer responses . . . and more. But today is beautiful. The sun is shining–a rarity in this part of the world!–and now that the squirrels are finding food elsewhere, the birds are beginning to come around. They are more difficult to photograph because, unlike the squirrels, they are not used to my presence through the window and they dart away the second I come into view. But that is ok, because I have to study anyway. I don’t have time for birds. REALLY, I don’t! . . . Well, maybe a shot or two, if I am quick enough.

Hours later, I simply had to close the blinds so that I could get some work done. The birds and the sunshine were simply too distracting. I didn’t get many shots although I tried. Of the shots I did get, I doubt that any would win awards. But here are a few of the best. Maybe in the coming days the birds won’t  spook so easily when I decide to snap their portraits. :-)

Enjoy!

Here’s a Bit of Sunshine!

My goal here is to spread a little sunshine with my blogs. I try to share the things that inspire me with anyone who is interested or in need of a bit of an uplift. So it was quite humbling to receive this latest nod from Mama’s Empty Nest. I encourage you to check out her blog if you haven’t already. I enjoy her take on life, especially since I’m an “empty nester” myself.
As for the award, here are the rules:
  • Include the award’s logo in a post or on your blog.  Check.  See the logo, it even looks happy, doesn’t it?
  • Answer 10 questions about yourself. Check. Q & A  below!
  • Nominate 10-12 other fabulous bloggers.  Because the myriad of fabulous bloggers  out there, I refer you instead to my blogroll at the bottom of his page.
  • Link your nominees to the post and comment on their blogs, letting them know they have been nominated. (I simply can’t comply here. Please forgive me for falling down on this part of the ‘rules.” But, sometimes rules are made to be broken.)
  • Share the love and link the person who nominated you.  Check.  ‘Mama,” thank you so much for this thoughtful gesture.

Ten Sunshine Award Questions along with my answers:

Favorite color:  This is difficult because I like color so much! Probably warm reds and yellows.

Favorite animal:  Definitely cats.

Favorite number:  I’m not sure how one has a favorite number. Just pulling one out of the hat, I say seven. Tomorrow that may be different.

Favorite non-alcoholic drink: Coffee, closely followed by green tea.

Prefer Facebook or Twitter? Not really into Twitter so I’ll have to go with Facebook

My passion:   Oy….so many! All things family, nature, healing and health (spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally, etc.)

Prefer getting or giving presents: Both! I know it sounds ‘non-committal’ but the cycle of giving and receiving makes for healthy living.

Favorite pattern:  This one I can’t even guess. Not even a wild guess. Although I do like patterns.

Favorite day of the week:  From sundown on Friday till Sundown on Saturday — the sabbath!

Favorite flower:  Definitely roses — all colors, makes no difference, but I am definitely a rose person!

So there you have it. If you want to give this a shot, please feel free to take that badge and post to your own site (pass a little sunshine) and answer the questions. I wish you all a wonderful, bright sunshiny day!

Awesome Talent ~

I don’t have much time to “write” blogs these days, but when I find something worth sharing with you, I am happy to do so. Enjoy the video. Rodrigo y Gabriela are some of my favorite musicians. :-)

Weekly Photo Challenge: Regret

I don’t think I have ever met anyone who didn’t have some regrets about choices they made, words left unsaid, loved ones lost, or destructive actions that hurt. I hear words, and have said them myself, “if only I had . . . .”  We (I am assuming that I’m not the only one) find ourselves wandering back along the paths of our memories and wincing as we wished we could do “it” over again, only this time better.

One of the formal prayers I daven daily, just before I read the Psalms, has a phrase that has actually become my mantra. Essentially we plead “May I live long enough to rectify the things that I have messed up.” From that I glean that as long as we have breath, opportunities abound to repair the world that we have torn, to do teshuvah (repent) for the wrongs we chose to do. We cannot go back in history and undo what was done, or take the sting out of words spoken in anger or pain. But we can resolve to do better. We can repair what we have broken.

My prayer is that when the sun sets on my life, I will not regret having passed up the opportunity to learn, to grow, to repent, to repair.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Flowers for my readers! Enjoy. :-)
